How To Make This Sugar Cookie Recipe With Applesauce

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a baking sheet. In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients except the sugar and mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter, both sugars, and the vanilla. Add the applesauce to the sugar bowl and mix well again.
  3. Combine both the dry and wet ingredients and mix well until a thick dough forms.
  4. Roll into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Press down the balls with a fork in a criss-cross pattern. Sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges of the bottoms start to turn a very light gold color. Leave on the pan to cool for a few minutes.

How does applesauce contribute to the flavor or texture of the cookies?

In thisrecipe, unsweetened applesauce serves the same purpose as butter or oil. Applesauce behaves very similarly to fat. It prevents a rubbery, dense texture from developing as a result of the flour protein mixing entirely with the wet ingredients. This is the function of applesauce in baking.

Does applesauce change the texture of baked goods?

Remember that applesauce changes the flavors and textures of baked goods, and that certain recipes react to the change more favorably than others. If you’re a little hesitant about using applesauce as a replacement, try cutting the oil out by half rather than completely.

What does applesauce do in baking?

Applesauce is a fantastic fat replacement in many baked items in addition to being a full and healthy snack. Cakes, pastries, muffins, and breads made using applesauce instead of butter or oil have more fiber and fewer calories. Additionally, applesauce will keep your baked goods moist and fresh for a longer period of time due to its high water content.
