How To Make Potato Chips At Home?

What Potatoes Are Used For Potato Chips?

A baking potato is the most common potato used for making potato chips, but  you can use other potatoes as well. Each one will create a different type of flavor, and you may want to augment that flavor with spices like a chipotle spice or packet of Ranch Dressing.  Russet potatoes are usually flavored with butter and salt.

How do you thinly slice potatoes?

Slice the potatoes very thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) and uniformly so they cook evenly. This is a great time to break out your mandoline slicer or use a very sharp chef’s knife.

What can I use instead of a mandoline?

Vegetable Peeler- This option will give you the potato shape that most resembles those you’ll get from a mandoline

A Chef’s Knife- This option will give you a little thicker potato chip.

Russet, Idaho and Yukon gold potatoes are starchy and great for baking, mashing and deep-frying. Their high-starch content produces an even color when cooking and their starch granules swell as they cook.
