Expert Tips for Smoking Meatloaf
- Go for cheddar! Feel free to add some shredded cheddar cheese to the meatloaf for a boost of flavor. I recommend adding ¼ – ½ cup to the mixture. And if cheddar isn’t your thing, mozzarella or any other variety will work too.
- Breadcrumbs work too. If you find yourself out of crackers, feel free to swap them for breadcrumbs. Make sure to go for finely crushed bread crumbs.
- Add some heat. If you love a touch of spice, sprinkle in a little bit of cayenne pepper. Don’t add a lot; just a dash or two is enough to do the trick.
- Crumbled bacon is delicious. Another fun way to add variety is by mixing in some crumbled bacon. You’ll need to cook it until it’s crispy and let it cool down. Then add to the beef mixture and cook.
Can I Substitute The Ground Beef?
Yep! Feel free to swap the ground beef for your go to ground meat. Chicken, turkey, and pork would all work well. If desired, you could use more than one variety of ground meat.

Start by heating your oven to 275 degrees F. Then place the leftover meatloaf in a casserole dish and 2-3 tablespoons of beef broth. Loosely cover the meatloaf with a piece of tin foil. Cook for 20-25 minutes or until it’s hot.
You could also microwave the leftovers, but it will heat quick, and sometimes it dries out. Don’t forget to cover it with a paper towel when microwaving because it will splatter as it heats.
