How to Make Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls

Using canned cinnamon rolls makes this recipe incredibly simple. All you need to do is slightly reshape the cinnamon rolls to mimic a Christmas tree, bake them, and then decorate with icing, sprinkles, or even candy ornaments. The result? A festive and delicious treat in under 30 minutes! It’s an ideal holiday recipe when you’re short on time but still want to impress.

Easy Christmas Desserts:

Storing Your Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

If you find yourself with leftover Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls (which, let’s be honest, rarely happens), proper storage is critical to keep them fresh and tasty. Allow your cinnamon rolls to cool completely before storing to prevent condensation, which can make them soggy. Once cool, store them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap.

For extra freshness, place parchment paper between each layer of cinnamon rolls if stacking them in a container. This prevents sticking and keeps them looking as pretty as when they came out of the oven!

How Long Do Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls Last?

If stored correctly at room temperature, your cinnamon rolls can last up to 2 days. For longer storage, place them in the refrigerator, which extends their freshness to around 4–5 days. To enjoy them after refrigeration, pop them in the microwave for 10–15 seconds to bring back that freshly baked warmth.

For even longer storage, cinnamon rolls can be frozen. Wrap each roll individually in plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer-safe container. When you’re ready to enjoy, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven or microwave.

Variations for Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls

One of the best parts about Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls is how customizable they are! Here are a few fun variations to inspire your creativity:

  • Colorful Icing: Add food coloring to the icing to mimic Christmas lights or a garland. Green icing for the tree base is a classic choice!
  • Candy Decorations: Use mini M&Ms, gumdrops, or red hots as ornaments.
  • Fruit Toppings: Add festive pops of color with fresh berries like raspberries or sliced strawberries, which pair wonderfully with the sweetness of cinnamon rolls.
  • Nut Lovers: Sprinkle crushed pecans or walnuts on the icing for a nutty twist.
  • Chocolate Drizzle: Melt some white or milk chocolate and drizzle it over the finished rolls for a decadent treat.

The possibilities are endless—feel free to mix and match toppings to make your Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls uniquely yours.

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls

Making Easy Cinnamon Rolls into Christmas Tree shapes is as simple as it sounds, but a few tips can make the process even smoother:

  • Flatten the Rolls Slightly: Before shaping them into trees, press down lightly on the canned cinnamon rolls to loosen the spiral slightly, making it easier to reshape.
  • Refrigerate the Dough: If the dough becomes too sticky, place it in the fridge for 5–10 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  • Piping Precision: Use a piping bag for the green icing to create clean, decorative lines on your cinnamon rolls. If you don’t have a piping bag, a sandwich bag with the corner snipped off works as a great alternative.
  • Serve Warm: These cinnamon rolls are best served fresh and warm for that soft, gooey texture we all love. If you need to reheat them, the microwave or oven (wrapped in foil to prevent drying out) works wonders.

Get Creative: Have fun with decorating! This is a great activity for kids or a fun treat to make for a holiday brunch with friends.
